Work History
The Zoo is one of my largest paintings. I wanted it to be a kind of elegy for zoo animals. Some of these animals are well known, some hardly known, and at least one (Edward Gorey's Uninvited Guest) unlikely. Some are zoo animals, others may just be visiting. An old man (me in old age) sits on a bench feeding the pigeons. A mother hurries her child out of the zoo. The boy's childhood illusions about life in captivity, and then living in general, are floating away with his red balloon.
