Work History
Kelvin Seabrooks was a Charlotte, North Carolina boxer who became a World Champion. I got his permission to use his likeness for my painting 'The Boxer', and he was gracious enough to give me promotional materials to use. I was thinking of George Grosz's great portrait of the German champion Max Schmeling. My boxer has achieved great success in a brutal sport, but has also taken punishment for years, and 'sleep walks' across the ring. When I had finished it I invited Mr. Seabrooks to my apartment to see it. He hated it. He especially criticized the inaccurate position of his hands, showing him in 'lefty' position.
