Dante's Dream
Dante's Dream
Acrylic on Board
18" X 22"

Dante's Dream is a literal illustration from the text of his 'La Vita Nuova' (the New Life, 1224) love poems dedicated to Beatrice, a young woman he had seen in church and became infatuated by. I've been there. Below, Dante dreams of the tragic death of this beautiful young woman and his passionate longing. Beatrice did, in fact, die young, although she lived on in his divine 'Commedia'. Above he describes her funeral amidst nature's sorrowful response.
