I did 'City of Cats' while I was working on a series of Cities inspired by Italo Calvino's great book 'Invisible Cities'. I was also thinking of Balthus' 'King of Cats'. I've always loved and lived with cats. It's also obviously indebted to my college travels in Tuscany.
