Fisherman and Factory was inspired by an NPR story about a particular river somewhere in the Southeast, which is heavily polluted with industrial waste. Just around a bend in the river from the factory, locals continue to fish. The model for the composition was a painting by a good friend and great painter, Jim Moon.
