The Suicide of Queen Dido of Carthage

An image from an opera video. Queen Dido, the founder of Carthage, committed suicide according to the ancient Greek writer Virgil. This happened when the god Jupiter forced her lover Aeneas, a Trojan prince, to abandon her to go to Italy. I wrestled with this painting for some time, and abandoned it as unfinished. I pulled it from storage recently and found that I feel finally at peace with it. I found the suitably elaborate frame, which I made this painting to fit.
