Work History
A commissioned painting, ultimately rejected- something common to commissioned pieces. The patron's response: 'I don't like blue'. I studied in Florence for a summer (Syracuse has a school there). We had a pass to the Uffizi and other museums, and for months I went daily to soak up as much as I could of Renaissance painting. We took day trips to Sienna, Orvieto, Pisa, Arezzo, and Assisi (I missed the bus to Rome!). Della Francesco's 'Legend of the True Cross' frescoes in Arezzo, and especially Giotto's 'St. Francis' cycle in Assisi were incredible highlights. So this painting was a tribute to that educational experience. I'm glad to have retained it.
