St. Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio

Influenced by memories from my Italian travels, this illustrates a story from the life of St. Francis. In the town of Gubbio, the villagers and their livestock were being attacked by a wolf. St. Francis was called in to assist. He met with the wolf and arranged that the villagers would feed him regularly. In return he would stop harassing the town. I visited Giotto's marvelous St. Francis fresco cycle in Assisi, before an earthquake damaged them in 1997.
