Mary Magdalene in Dormition
Mary Magdalene in Dormition
Oil on Panel
21" X 24"

Goddesses and saints often don't die a mortal death. They move into a sleep or coma-like state called dormition, and then are transported up into Heaven. Mary Magdalene is lying on the beach on the French coast, her protector watching from a boat. She'll be rising soon. I did this painting before I began working on my Gospel of Mary Magdalene text and illustrations. It's painted on a child's school desk I found. Kids are often tempted to decorate them.
