Work History
Simon Magus was an alchemist and magician who challenged St. Peter, in front of the Emperor Nero, by demonstrating his ability to fly. According to the early Church, he did fly, but Peter prayed to God for help, and immediately Simon lost his dark powers and fell out of the sky to his death. This image, and many others, were inspired by my travels in Tuscany during my last year at Syracuse University.
This painting was the reason I met a great friend, Nikolaus Mohr, a German art historian and painter, who used it in his series of image comparisons. Also recently, it’s been used to promote a Horror book by an Austin, Texas author, Jess Hagemann, which has been good fun.
