The El was one of the first paintings I did after college. Simply painting the things in front of me seemed an honest approach to subject matter. I rode the El into work every day. I worked as a painter of museum replicas for N.Y.C. Museums, great training in the craft of painting. All the other painters were Russian, so there was little communication but good respect.
