Life Mask of Akhenaten
Life Mask of Akhenaten
3 Colored Pen on Paper
6”x9”

This image comes from a life-mask of the heretic Pharoah Akhenaten. It was found in the relatively intact studio of royal sculptor Thutmose. Recently I've begun using a colored pen (red, black, and blue) because of it's similarity to the '3 crayon' technique used by many 18th and 19th century French draftsmen including Watteau. I've always loved drawing with a simple ballpoint pen, because of it's strong graphic quality and it's difficulty.
