This is a portrait of a very brave young woman.The painting’s title, ‘Brave Soul’ is at the top. I very much hope she’s still living, but she may not be. The news photo I used was taken at a demonstration in Iran several years ago, and behind her was a line of women clad head to toe in black. The photo has haunted me ever since. My good friend Raed helped with the title’s translation, and doing the calligraphy was fun. The election coming up reminded me of her.
