When I moved to Charlotte, NC,, the ‘Buckle of the Bible Belt’, many years ago, I began a series of paintings I called ‘Problems With Religion’. This drawing felt a little harsh to me, and I never did a painted version. But I like the drawing.
Psalm 137 gives a blessing to those Christians fighting to destroy Babylon. It ends with a horrific image of dashing oppressor’s infants against rocks. A recent analogy might be the bombing of a girls’ elementary school.
